Minor in Possession of Marijuana and Paraphernalia

I am a 17-year-old male from Nebraska and I am fairly new to marijuana. I attend a fairly prestigious high school and I am a good student. I have a few questions pertaining to my first encounter with the law.
I was driving around in my car with two buddies of mine. One of the guys in the backseat was hitting a pipe and shortly after (just my luck) the cops roll up and I was pulled over. My friends were immediately taken home by their parents scott free. My car was searched and three different pipes, about 2.5 grams of weed and a scale were retrieved, all belonging to me. Shortly afterward, I was sent home with a citation for possessing less than one ounce of marijuana and possessing paraphernalia; somehow no citation for intent to sell. My parents do not know this happened. My questions are as follows:
– Just because an offense is not included on my citation ticket will the evidence that I had a scale be used against me?
– From what I understand, possible charges can range from probation to just community service, so I am planning on finding a lawyer that will hopefully help bolster my case and reduce any sentence. Is this a good idea?
– Is there a way I can avoid bringing my parents to court? I don’t want them to know about this.
– Anything else I should be aware of?
